Education Manager

The American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R), a national medical society representing over 8,000 physicians has an immediate opening for a Education Manager.

An education professional who actively supports the mission and strategy of the Academy by leading data-driven education on-line learning project initiatives; ensuring CME compliance with requirements; and working with internal and external stakeholders to develop a market researched portfolio of educational products. A collaborative education team member who actively monitors and interprets the evolving PM&R educational landscape and member learner needs to develop educational products and tools for measuring learner outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop project management plans and act as the project manager working with Academy staff and volunteer members for education on-line learning initiatives including the needs assessment, vendor identification, project coordination, implementation and communication of a new Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Monitor and interpret ACCME requirements; communicate updates and make recommendations for policy, procedure and system changes to maintain compliance with ACCME criteria. Prepare annual CME reports; and work with volunteers to ensure CME activities adhere to all relevant guidelines.
  • Regularly review, revise and update the Education Product Development Process as ACCME criteria changes and internal business processes are streamlined; communicate these revisions and updates to staff and provide training as needed.
  • Actively explore and identify educational trends, learning technology and other resources available to improve instructional design and deliver on-line educational activities.
  • Collaborate with staff and physician volunteer stakeholders to conduct needs assessment and gather market research; assist with educational product line proposal development, from content development to delivery, as well as evaluation and measurement of learner outcomes.
  • Participate as the staff liaison in the communication and activities of the Medical Education Committee, sub-committees and work groups to advance the goals and objectives of the committee. Act as the Committee’s staff resource for coordinating and scheduling conference calls, vendor meetings and assisting as needed for the efficient flow of committee tasks and communication.
  • Support the development of a comprehensive portfolio of educational products designed to address the needs of PM&R physicians.
  • Contribute to the analysis and preparation of the annual education budget and actively manage resources to adhere to the approved budget.
  • Provide support to the Director as needed to facilitate the smooth and efficient functioning of the department; perform other duties assigned.

  • Skilled in effectively and efficiently working with a diverse group of project stakeholders
  • Maintain high professional standards of integrity, ethics, and commitment to the goals of AAPM&R
  • Technology savvy professional with a broad understanding of on-line learning, web site capabilities, and personal computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of ACCME Criteria and policies and AMA policies related to continuing medical education, a plus

Experience and Education

  • A Bachelor's degree required; preferably in a field related to adult learning/education
  • At least 3 years experience in project management, preferably in education technology
  • Not-for-profit experience, preferably in association management or Medical specialty society work is preferred

Estimated Travel:

Less than 10% annually, including weekend committee meetings, 1-2 evening conference calls per month.
