Strengthening the specialty of PM&R and supporting members’ practices and patients, AAPM&R offers a full depth and breadth of benefits designed to help PM&R physicians meet new challenges and build successful careers, including:

Member Councils

Member Councils are clinical homes for members. They offer opportunities for collaboration and contributions of expertise to the general work of the Academy in the areas of research, education, and advocacy. There are five Councils: Central Nervous System Rehabilitation, Medical Rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal Medicine, Pain Medicine/Neuromuscular Medicine, Pediatric Rehabilitation/Developmental Disabilities. Members may join as many Councils that interest them.

Knowledge NOW

PM&R Knowledge NOW is a brand new, online resource from AAPM&R. The Web site is in the process of becoming the specialty's go-to practicing curriculum for PM&R physicians. By the end of 2012, over 125 clinical topics will be available for exploration. Over the next couple of years, 175-plus new topics will be added. Check out the new site at www.pmrknowledgenow.org.

PhyzForum

The Academy recently launched PhyzForum, the online peer network that connects members 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Members collaborate to share insights, expertise, and resources.

Continuing Medical Education

acadeME® is AAPM&R's online education platform that allows physiatrists to access educational services and obtain and manage CME credits via the Internet, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Academy members receive up to a 50% discount on ME activities.

Annual Assembly and Courses

Members receive discounts for AAPM&R educational conferences and programs including the Annual Assembly, which offers cutting-edge educational sessions and scientific poster and oral paper presentations, as well as a large technical exhibition showcasing the latest PM&R products and services. Interim courses and special conferences provide additional continuing education opportunities.

PM&R Journal
PM&R - The journal of injury, function and rehabilitation

PM&R, the Academy’s official peer-reviewed, scientific journal has been created specifically for the physical medicine and rehabilitation physician. It was selected for MEDLINE indexing after only one year of publication.

Advocacy Initiatives

AAPM&R legislative advocacy activities inform policymakers about issues affecting the health care and quality of life of people with disabilities. The Academy also maintains a strong Washington presence to help protect member interests in physician payment and regulatory issues.

The AAPM&R Web site is your electronic link to Academy programs and services. The site’s members only section features an online membership directory, an online job board, special legislative alerts, clinical pathways references, searchable cost-effectiveness bibliography database, and links to related organizations. Updated weekly, the site receives about 52,000 hits per month.

Specialty-Specific Marketing Tools

AAPM&R provides members with grassroots marketing tools for assistance in local marketing efforts while building awareness and recognition of the specialty at a national level. Slide/script programs on the specialty in general as well as specific topics are available, and AAPM&R maintains a variety of other community outreach tools to meet your specific needs. Most programs are free-of-charge to members.

Find a PM&R Physician

As a service to the general public, AAPM&R provides consumers with referrals to PM&R physicians in their geographic area. Consumers can access this referral service through the AAPM&R office or online via the Web site. Participation is open exclusively to Academy members as a benefit of membership.

Position Statements and White Papers

Members have access to more than 50 position statements and white papers that have been developed in response to specific legislative, regulatory, economic, and technological issues.

Practice Guidelines

AAPM&R has broadened its involvement in practice guideline activities to assure high quality of care for patients. Guidelines endorsed by the Academy are useful tools for members in improving their clinical practice and managing complex medical issues.

Print and E-Communications

Published 10 times each year, The Physiatrist updates you on Academy activities and programs, legislative actions, practice and socioeconomic issues, educational courses, and specialty developments. The newsletter also features classified advertising for employment opportunities.

For late breaking news, the Academy also publishes a bi-monthly e-newsletter, Connection, offering you the most recent updates in your specialty.

Member Discounts on Patient and Professional Education Resources

Designed by physiatrists for physiatrists, the Academy’s attractive educational brochures provide consumers and health care professionals with the facts they need to make informed decisions about PM&R services. These brochures are regularly updated to meet your needs.
