Washington State Convention & Trade Center

Maintenance of Certification® (MOC)

The American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) via its Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program, requires board certified physicians to complete a minimum of 300 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ by the end of their 10-year MOC cycle. The educational sessions offered at the AAPM&R 2010 Annual Assembly will help physicians meet the ABPMR Part II Lifelong Learning requirement. For more information about Maintenance of Certification, visit the ABPMR Web site (www.abpmr.org).

Open Sessions

Open sessions may be attended by all registered Annual Assembly attendees at no additional cost. Click here to view course descriptions. There are four types of open sessions:

90-Minute Courses

These educational sessions are organized around a single theme. They may include several speakers, panel discussions, or group discussions. Courses are 90 minutes and are designated with a three-digit number, except workshops and focused sessions.

Some 90-minute courses are in the form of clinical pearls. Clinical pearls are educational sessions incorporating scientific paper presentations with several short clinical pearl presentations from the same topic area.

60-Minute Focused Sessions

The 60-minute focused sessions provide an advanced discussion on clinical topics. These advanced educational sessions may include several speakers, panel discussions, or group discussions. Focused session numbers begin with F.

Best Research Presentations

Formerly known as Poster Grand Rounds, these 60-minute educational sessions include the top reviewed abstracts in each topic area. The sessions are designed to facilitate discussion on current research and methodology of commonly themed posters.

Plenary Sessions

The focus of plenary sessions is to present the latest news in the world of physiatry. These sessions include keynote speakers as well as the AAPM&R award presentations (which include the Walter J. Zeiter Lecture).

Scientific Poster Presentations

All poster presenters will be available in the Poster Hall on Friday, November 5, 11:30 am–12:30 pm, to give brief oral descriptions of their studies and participate in one-on-one discussions with interested attendees.

Workshops

To attend a workshop, you must purchase a ticket for it; workshop tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis to registered attendees. Each attendee may pre-register for three (3) workshops and must rank their choices on the registration form. Additional tickets may be sold onsite if space is available. Early registration is encouraged to reserve a spot for these popular sessions.

Note: This year, five (5) interactive workshops will be complimentary. For all other workshops, there is a fee.

Workshop session numbers begin with W. Ticketed workshops are designated with this symbol (T) in the Track Offerings At-A-Glance. Click here to view workshop descriptions. There are two types of workshops—both are 90 minutes in length and have limited seating:

Hands-On Workshops

This workshop is practice-oriented and provides supervised hands-on experience, usually following a demonstration. Hands-on workshops are designated in the Preliminary Program with an (HO) following the title.

Interactive Workshops

In addition, all meeting registrants will receive a CD-ROM of course handouts onsite with the meeting materials. AAPM&R requires that all faculty provide copies of their PowerPoint® presentations and a course handout.

Accreditation

The American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Program Planning Committee of the AAPM&R Medical Education Committee developed the educational program this year in accordance with the ACCME Essentials for developing continuing medical education. Educational topics were selected on the basis of evaluation from previous educational offerings, advice from the Member Councils of the Academy, and the expert opinion of the Program Planning Committee. In every session, the level of information, modes of presentation, and learning objectives were developed to meet the needs of physiatrists. Educational sessions that are appropriate for other physicians and health care professionals are designated accordingly.
