Knowing that successful professionals often attribute their success to those who helped them along the way,  AAPM&R is introducing a way for early-career and experienced physiatrists to connect in real-time about:

This members-only benefit pairs fellows who have been in practice for 6+ years with members who are in residency through 5 years post-residency. 

Through an online communication platform, the Virtual Mentoring program offers real-time answers and guidance, serving as an immediate, personal resource for early career physiatrists navigating the day-to-day responsibilities of practicing medicine. 

Program Goals

  • Assist members in sharing skills, knowledge, and expertise
  • Provide timely guidance, within 24 hours when possible
  • Discuss topics important to early-career physicians, such as:
    • Transitioning from residency to practice
    • Day-to-day challenges of practicing medicine
    • Navigating the changing health care landscape
    • Specific questions about PM&R
    • Personal finances
    • Contract negotiations
    • Establishing a private practice  
    • Marketing your practice
    • Diversifying your career
    • Work/life balance
    • Time management, organizational skills, and physician efficiency
    • MOC/licensure
    • Pursuing an AAPM&R leadership role

Who Can Participate

Mentors: Physiatrists who have been in practice for 6 or more years. 

Protégés: Physiatrists who are in residency through 5 years post-residency.



How to Get Started:

  1. Register on MentorCity, the Academy's virtual mentoring platform.
  2. Complete your profile.
  3. Protégés: MentorCity will provide a list of potential matches. After review, send an invitation to your potential mentor via the MentorCity platform. Click here for step-by-step instructions.  
  4. During initial contact, establish parameters (frequency and mode of communication, goals, etc.).  MentorCity provides a communication platform, but you determine what works best - phone calls, emails, texts, or MentorCity platform.
