IPAB –[PPACA Sec. 3403, adding SSA Sec. 1899A, p.387] Consumer Advisory Council:

Council will advise the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) on the impact of payment policies on consumers. There will be 10 consumer members from each of the regions established by the Secretary.

The Academy should work through patient/consumer organizations such as the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), to support or recommend a nominee.

HHS – [PPACA Sec. 4001 (f), page 440] National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council Advisory Group

President will establish the advisory group of licensed health professional, including integrative health practitioners who have expertise in, among other things, rehabilitative medicine. The advisory group will develop policy and program recommendations and advise the council on lifestyle-based chronic disease prevention and management of integrative health care practices and health promotion.

*CDC- [PPACA Sec. 4003(b), adding PHSA Sec. 399U, page 444) Community Preventive Services Task Force

*The current CDC Task Force already exists (see website here), new nominees will depend on when members’ terms end. The task force conducts occasional meetings that the public can attend.

CDC Task Force will be convened by the Director and members will have appropriate expertise to review scientific evidence and make recommendations related to the effectiveness, appropriateness, and cost-effectiveness of community preventive interventions.

National Health Care Workforce Commission [PPACA Sec. 5101, p.492]

The workforce will review health care workforce and projected workforce needs and will provide unbiased information to Congress and the president about how to align federal health care workforce resources and national needs. The Comptroller General will appoint no less than on representative of the health care workforce and health professionals

Establishment of Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute Board of Governors [PPACA Sec. 6391 (a), adding SSA Sec. 1181, page 630 The BOG will be appointed by the Comptroller General and will have 4 physicians.

This is authorized to be established as a nonprofit corporation and is not an establishment of the federal government. The purpose of the Institute is to assist stakeholders in making informed health decisions by advancing evidence concerning the manner in which health conditions can effectively and appropriately be prevented, diagnosed, treated and managed through research and evidence synthesis that considers variations in patient subpopulations.
