AAPM&R Joins Alliance With ASA
In Brief: AAPM&R has
recently joined an alliance with the American Stroke Association (ASA).
The Academy has officially joined an alliance headed up
by the ASA by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU sets forth
the terms and understanding among the ASA and the AAPM&R regarding activities
related to working together to reduce stroke and risk of stroke by 25 percent
by 2010. The Academy’s next step is to discuss how to begin working together
and what programs might benefit both the ASA and the AAPM&R.
ASA is a division of the American Heart Association (AHA). The ASA has formed
an alliance with a total of 12 medical professional associations including the
American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the American Association of Neurological
Surgeons (AANS), and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). As a
member of the alliance, AAPM&R will be listed as a formal partner and can
contribute to the ASA's monthly electronic newsletter, which is sent out to
approximately 4,000 people. AAPM&R will also have the opportunity to
participate in the development of educational curriculum or products for
members and to participate in groups such as the Stroke Council, which is the
scientific arm of ASA.
