Health Plan Complaint Form Available from AMA
In Brief: The American Medical
Association (AMA) has developed a health plan complaint form for physicians to
report administrative disputes with third party payors.
Following acceptance of a resolution in the AMA House of
Delegates, the AMA’s Private Sector Advocacy (PSA) division developed a health
plan complaint form. The form allows physicians to report improper denials,
late payments, administrative issues, downcoding and bundling, contract
disputes, and other problems with insurers and third party payors.
Data collected from this form is used to develop a
database of health plan complaints and identify insurance trends. The PSA
division also uses the information in discussions with insurers and third
party payors as well as in the AMA’s legislative and regulatory agenda.
Information provided on the form will remain confidential
and the use of personal identifying information is optional. Only physicians
may complete the form and are required to use either an AMA Internet ID or
medical education number to ensure security. The form may be accessed and
completed on the AMA’s Web site at
http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/6760.html.
For additional information or to receive a copy of the
form, contact the Academy national office at (312) 464-9700
