AAPM&R Committees

Working together, the groups within these strategic coordinating committees do much of the work of the organization. Other work groups and task forces are created throughout the year on an add-needed basis. Together, committees are the engine that powers the Academy. Academy committees include the following:

  • Clinical Quality Improvement: Provides leadership on performance measurement issues, raises member awareness on the evolution of performance measures and solicits and evaluates appropriate, collaborative opportunities to develop clinical tools relevant to physical medicine and rehabilitation.

  • Continuing Medical Education: The CME Committee (CMEC) is a working committee overseen by the AAPM&R Medical Education Committee (MEC); as such, a MEC member will serve as chair. This committee will provide consistent, frequent, and direct input on behalf of MEC for educational products and activities in the product development pipeline.

  • Finance: Monitors the financial affairs of the Academy, including developing yearly budgets.

  • Health Policy & Legislation: Monitors government relations activities and issues, develops policy, and recommends appropriate action to Academy Board.

  • History Preservation: Oversees the collection of data and memorabilia documenting significant events in the history of the Academy and the specialty.

  • Journal Oversight

  • Medical Education: Considers and reports to the Board of Governors all matters concerning education in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

  • Medical Practice: Monitors the global health care environment and develops materials to educate members on physician reimbursement, regulatory issues, managed care trends and other issues relevant to practicing physiatrists.

  • Membership: Develops new plans and programs to promote and recruit members.

  • Program Planning: Plans and implements educational programs for members.

  • Public and Professional Awareness: Oversees the marketing and promotion of the specialty to a variety of key target audiences.

  • Quality, Practice and Policy: Serves as the strategic coordinating committee for visioning, planning, and management in the critical areas of advocacy, practice/business services, research and quality improvement.

  • Research: Promotes the growth of clinical and outcomes research in PM&R.

  • Self-Assessment: Creates self-assessment examinations for residents and practitioners.

  • Study Guide: Creates self-assessment study guides for practitioners.
