Members have volunteered for leadership and work positions on Advisory and Work Groups to generate ideas and produce topics for educational products including submissions to PM&R, the Academy’s scientific journal. In addition, many Council members have volunteered their time by providing feedback on legislative bills and medical practice issues, while others have utilized Council networking tools to share best practices and to generate clinical and social networking groups to meet the diverse needs of members. First Annual Business MeetingEach Council hosted its inaugural business meeting at the AAPM&R 2009 Annual Assembly in Austin, Texas. Hundreds of members gathered to discuss Council business activities as well as their experiences being involved in the new Member Council model in its first year. Council Executive Committee leaders met face-to-face with Council members to educate members on where their areas of expertise can best be coupled with the needs of the diverse specialty of PM&R; they also educated members on how volunteerism can make an impact by helping the Academy meet the needs of the specialty. Member Participation in the CouncilsCall for Council Advisory and Work Group NominationsAAPM&R is seeking nominations for volunteers. Volunteer to be a LeaderEach Member Council has three Vice-Chairs who oversee Advisory Groups on education, communication, and membership development. Vice-Chairs will appoint “Advisory Groups” to serve as resources to the Councils in the following key areas:
