AAPM&R is a member-driven association. There are a number of opportunities for you to help the
Academy achieve its goals. By getting involved you can share your expertise
with other members, expand your leadership skills, and broaden your
professional network.
Expectations of Volunteers
If you are interested in
serving on a committee, please complete the attached form and fax or e-mail
your committee preference(s) to the AAPM&R national office. There
are a limited number of committee positions available each year, we will
keep your request in our database for future
appointments if an opening is not currently available.

You must attend at least 2/3 of the scheduled
meetings/conference calls (if applicable).

You must complete tasks/projects you volunteer
to do for the committee in a timely manner.

You must have attended at least one Annual
Assembly in the past three years (majority of committees hold meetings only
during Annual Assembly).
Timetable
- There are a limited number of positions available per year. Your
request will be kept on file for two years.
- Committee terms begin at the Annual Assembly.
The following is a list of the
opportunities available to all members.

Bylaws: Revises
or amends the Bylaws and reports its recommendations to the Academy
membership.

Clinical Quality Improvement: Provides leadership
on performance measurement issues, raises member awareness on the evolution
of performance measures and solicits and evaluates appropriate,
collaborative opportunities to develop clinical tools relevant to physical
medicine and rehabilitation.

Finance: Monitors the financial affairs of the
Academy, including developing yearly budgets.

Health Policy & Legislation: Monitors
government relations activities and issues, develops policy, and recommends
appropriate action to Academy Board.

History Preservation: Oversees the collection
of data and memorabilia documenting significant events in the history of the
Academy and the specialty.

Public and Professional Awareness: Oversees
the marketing and promotion of the specialty to a variety of key target
audiences.

Medical Education: Considers and reports to the
Board of Governors all matters concerning education in Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation.

Medical Practice: Monitors the global health
care environment and develops materials to educate members on physician
reimbursement, regulatory issues, managed care trends and other issues
relevant to practicing physiatrists.

Membership: Develops new plans and
programs to promote and recruit members.

Program Planning: Plans and
implements educational programs for members.

Quality Practice and Policy: Serves as the
strategic coordinating committee for visioning, planning, and management in
the critical areas of advocacy, practice/business services, research and
quality improvement.

Research: Promotes
the growth of clinical and outcomes research in PM&R.

Self-Assessment: Creates
self-assessment examinations for residents and practitioners.

Study Guide: Creates
self-assessment study guides for practitioners.
