Sign Up for HCNN to Improve Patient Safety & Enhance
Liability Protection
Patient safety and medical liability protection requires that you are
well-informed about patient safety issues quickly. The Academy wants to
ensure members know about an important, new free service – the Health Care
Notification Network (HCNN) – that will improve the speed and efficacy of
members receiving these important alerts.
HCNN will deliver important product-related patient safety
alerts, which are mandated by FDA, via a secure, dedicated online network. If a
physician signs up for this service, it will replace the current paper alerts he
or she currently receives via US mail. HCNN also offers the following benefits:
-
The service is free to physicians. It is governed by a
not-for-profit board and only used for patient safety notices (i.e., not for
advertising or selling data).
-
HCNN is faster and more efficient than current
paper-based delivery of patient safety alerts. A delay in the delivery of
alerts can increase physician liability.
-
Physicians can designate office staff members to
receive the same online alerts that are sent to physicians in order to
facilitate patient follow-up where needed.
-
Physicians can opt out at any time.
Note: Members who currently have a medical practice Web
site through the Academy’s agreement with Medem will automatically be enrolled
in HCNN.
To enroll in HCNN, go to
www.hcnn.net register and enter your basic demographic information including
your preferred e-mail address. This process should take one to two minutes.
Once enrolled, a physician will only receive the alerts
related to his or her specialty.
The Academy supports HCNN because it is allows more rapid
and focused delivery of FDA-mandated product recalls and warnings, which is good
for physicians, their practices, and their patients. AAPM&R supports the
numerous medical liability carriers, FDA, medical societies, and other
organizations that have worked together to provide this service.
