Medem provides AAPM&R members with medical practice Web sites

Medem and AAPM&R partner to provide members with free medical practice Web sites

AAPM&R has partnered with Medem to provide members with medical practice Web sites. An introduction to Medem and its extensive range of services follows.

About Medem

Medem provides physicians with simple yet powerful services to improve medical care, access, and quality. Founded in 1999 by leading medical societies, Medem is the largest, online practice communications resource for physicians with close to 100,000 members. Medem provides a suite of integrated communication and care services (“iHealth Services”) for patients and physicians featuring the iHealthRecord - a secure interactive personal health record for every American. Learn more about Medem’s services at www.medem.com

Medem Network Services (Web sites)

All Medem services are available to patients from their physician’s Medem practice Web site. Medem works with more than 45 medical societies, the FDA, the CDC, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, liability carriers, health plans and other national healthcare experts in providing an integrated online service offering that includes:

The iHealthRecord™: Medem’s secure, interactive online personal health record.

  • The iHealthRecord is completely portable, and available to patients through nearly 100,000 Medem physician Web sites, at www.ihealthrecord.org, and through other partner sites. The iHealthRecord provides online access to critical health data for patients, physicians, and caregivers, that will improve the quality of patient care, advance medication adherence and disease management, and reduce medical errors, physician liability and costs.

  • Patient privacy & data use oversight for the iHealthRecord is performed by the iHealth Alliance; a healthcare non-profit organization chaired by former AMA president Nancy Dickey, MD with representatives from other healthcare organizations such as the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society.

Customizable physician practice Web site with an award-winning library of information for patients from organizations including AAPM&R, AMA, AAP, FDA, CDC, etc.

  • Web site services can be linked to an existing Web site.
  • Patients can access all Medem online services from their physician’s site.
  • Web sites provide new patient access to physicians through exclusive links to the provider directories of health plans representing >70MM lives (United, Aetna, CIGNA, Wellpoint, BCBS TX, other Blues, ConnectiCare, etc.).

Automated Disease Management (“Adherence”) Services

  • A series of medication or condition-specific disease management messages sent automatically to patients, from their own physician, based on inputs from the patient's  iHealthRecord.
  • Programs come from authoritative organizations, including the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, FDA, CDC, Leading Medical Societies, etc., and can be approved and/or edited (where allowed) by the physician. Physicians can also create their own adherence programs for their patients.
  • Fulfills pay-for-performance requirements.

Secure Messaging: Liability carrier endorsed, HIPAA compliant physician office - patient messaging (optional service).

  • Secure Messaging, which is administrative messaging between office staff and patients, and includes the ability to request appointments, prescription renewals, and ask general administrative questions.
  • Online Consultation™ - fee-based physician-patient messaging for clinical questions, which includes direct payment via credit card and the ability of physicians to set their own charges.

Secure Pay: Enables patients to pay outstanding balances using major credit cards.
