AAPM&R Signs On in Support of a Statement of Principles in Medicare Advantage (MA) Plans

As part of the Coalition to Preserve Rehabilitation (CPR), AAPM&R signed on to a March letter in support of a statement of principles on patient access to rehabilitation services in Medicare Advantage (MA) plans. While this statement of principles addresses MA plans specifically, CPR believes that similar principles should be applied to all managed care plans, including in Medicaid and the private market. Our Medicare Advantage principles are as follows: MA plans must acknowledge the critical role of rehabilitation in patient-centered care, MA plans must provide access to at least the same services and care as those available to beneficiaries in “regular” Medicare, and MA plans must not erect barriers to rehabilitative care.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
