A Look at the AMA HOD Meeting

Members & Publications

June 21, 2017

AMA HOD Meeting_June17_1On June 8-14, your Academy representatives attended the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates (HOD) meeting. AMA delegates play a critical role in the democratic policy-making process that is the foundation of the AMA. AAPM&R delegates to the AMA HOD advocate for policies that affect physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians and their patients. The PM&R delegation was represented by Drs. Leon Reinstein (AMA Delegate and PM&R Section Council Chair), Susan Hubbell (AMA Delegate), Brittany Bicklehaupt (Resident and Fellow Section Representative, Alternate Delegate), and Mohamad Agha (Young Physicians Section Representative, Alternate Delegate). Many timely reports and resolutions were discussed by the HOD, with topics including health care reform, Medicaid funding, regulation of physician assistants, and Maintenance of Certification®.

On June 10, the PM&R delegation held a reception in honor of Leon Reinstein’s, MD, FAAPMR, retirement from the AMA HOD. We would like to especially thank Dr. Reinstein for 21 years of service, dedication, and leadership!

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
