Long-Range Goals & Strategies

GOAL A: PASSOR will be its members’ primary advocate for knowledge exchange and education for musculoskeletal medicine within AAPM&R.

Strategies:

A1. Develop, monitor, and periodically update the education program offered during the PASSOR Annual Meeting.

A2.

Enhance educational training and educator development, and promote dissemination of knowledge through both traditional and electronic technology.

A3.

Develop strategic alliances to improve knowledge, information exchange, and promotion of physiatric practice across liaison relationships.

A4.

Improve participation in musculoskeletal curriculum development and training.

A5.

Create and implement a member needs instrument to periodically assess the changing needs of practitioners. 

A6.

To understand practice patterns of PASSOR members.

A7.

Develop a world class Web site with a strong membership resource section

A8.

Advocate for creation of physiatric subspecialization where appropriate within domains under PASSOR interests.

GOAL B: PASSOR will be the recognized public spokesperson and a leading resource of information for musculoskeletal medicine.

Strategies:

B1.

Promote training in media skills management for all PASSOR members.

B2.

Develop greater participation in strategic partnerships with other organizations that will increase PASSOR’s visibility and influence.

B3.

Enhance public awareness of musculoskeletal physiatry.

B4.

Assist identification and advocacy of musculoskeletal issues pertinent to physiatric practice.

GOAL C: PASSOR will be a strong advocate for musculoskeletal medicine research.

Strategies:

C1.

Increase the awareness and develop skills in outcomes research.

C2.

Identify resources for funding musculoskeletal research.

C3.

Develop cooperative alliances with other specialties, associations, and foundations, etc. to advocate legislatively on behalf of musculoskeletal medicine research activities. 

C4.

Enhance the mentor programs for research ideas or projects.

GOAL D: PASSOR and its mission will be fully integrated within AAPM&R.

Strategies:

D1.

Increase the focus (awareness) on musculoskeletal interests throughout all Academy members.

D2.

Unify all AAPM&R musculoskeletal activities.

D3.

Enhance representation at all levels of AAPM&R’s infrastructure (Board, committee, SIG’s, etc.).

D4.

Increase the number of PASSOR members.

GOAL E: PASSOR will be the advocate for creating an optimal practice environment for musculoskeletal physiatrists.

Strategies:

E1.

Partner with the Academy on practice issues (e.g., coding and practice management).

E2.

In cooperation with the Academy partner with other organizations on practice issues.

E3.

Continue to expand and review scope of practice issues as new technology is made available.
