Faculty qualifications and responsibilities
Faculty is responsible for the general administration of
the program, including recruitment, selection, instruction, supervision,
counseling, evaluation, and advancement of fellows.
- Program director
In some cases, this may mean appointing co-directors.
- Qualifications
- Documented credentials as a clinician, administrator, and
educator in the subspecialty.
- Licensure to practice medicine in the state where the program will
be located.
- Appointment in good standing to the medical staff of an
institution or organization participating in the program.
- Responsibilities
- Sufficient time devoted to provide
leadership to the program as well as supervision of the fellow(s).

Active participation in research and scholarly activities in the
subspecialty.
- Preparation of a written outline of the educational goals of the program
detailing knowledge, skills, and other attributes of fellows at each level of
training or phase of the program.
- Number and qualifications of faculty
- There must be sufficient number of teaching staff with documented
qualifications to adequately instruct and supervise all the fellows in the
program. Faculty must have sufficient time to devote to their supervisory
and teaching responsibilities.
- All members of the faculty should demonstrate a strong
interest in the education of fellows, sound clinical and teaching abilities
in the subspecialty, support the goals and objectives of the program, a
commitment to their own continuing medical education, and participation in
scholarly activities in the subspecialty.
