Electronic Health Records (EHRs)

In the last few years many discussions have taken place regarding Electronic Health Records (EHRs). The passing into law of The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has made EHRs a reality for many and has opened up many questions regarding their viability, their implementation, maintenance, software upgrades and the costs associated with their adoption. The AAPM&R has prepared a series of educational articles that have appeared in our monthly newsletter The Physiatrist that answer several of these questions and offer a series of things to keep in mind when considering implementing an EHR system.
