Grants Available from the Foundation for PMR

The Foundation for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation’s (FPMR) mission is to enhance health and function through education and research in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. To fulfill that mission, the FPMR is now accepting applications for its 2007 Awards and Grants Program to support and promote excellence in rehabilitation research.

  • ERF New Investigator Research Grants – Two $10,000 short-term seed grants for research in topics related to the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. Eligible applicants for grant include any resident in an ACGME-accredited residency training program in physical medicine and rehabilitation or a physiatrist within five years of completion of an ACGME-accredited residency training program in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Application deadline: May 15, 2007.

  • ERF Best Paper Award – Two awards of $2,000 each (one to a new investigator and one to an established investigator) are presented in recognition of research published by a physiatrist in any peer-reviewed journal. Application deadline: May 15, 2007.

  • ERF Women’s Career Development Scholarship – A stipend to attend the AAMC Early-Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar. The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) seminar is tailored to women in their first faculty appointment who are aiming for a position of leadership in academic medicine. It is targeted primarily at physicians, but is also pertinent for PhD researchers collaborating with clinicians. Application deadline: March 15, 2007.

  • Musculoskeletal Research (MSK) Grant – PASSOR provided an endowment to the Foundation in support of research related to rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions. The MSK Award is a grant for research or education on a topic related to the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. The project should focus on medical rehabilitation for musculoskeletal conditions. Special consideration will be given to applications focused on outcomes research. One grant (up to $40,000) will be made. Application deadline: March 15, 2007.

All awards will be presented at the 2007 AAPM&R Annual Assembly (September 27-30 in Boston). Complete award criteria and application information can be found at http://www.foundationforpmr.org/grantseeking.html. If you have questions about the awards or the application process, e-mail info@foundationforpmr.org or call (312) 464-6646.
