April 16, 2019

On Monday, April 15, AAPM&R held a webinar, Academy Efforts to Reduce Inpatient Denials and Associated Physician Burden, describing the Health Policy & Legislation (HP&L) Committee’s various projects. HP&L member, Dr. Jason Miller, presented along with AAPM&R’s Washington Consultant, Peter Thomas of Powers Law Firm.

The presenters discussed efforts to reduce inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) denials based on medical necessity and technical documentation errors; prior authorization issues in Medicare Advantage plans; and the Academy response to the OIG Report on high error rates in IRFs. 55 members attended the presentation and offered great feedback for helpful future webinars, including a webinar on physician compliance with IRF documentation requirements. View the webinar.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
