June 7, 2019

On June 7, the ACGME’s Committee on Requirements (CoR) conducted an open forum regarding the Pain Medicine Fellowship requirements. AAPM&R and the American Board of Physicial Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) represented the specialty with testimonies. D.J. Kennedy, MD, representing AAPM&R, gave testimony regarding how the current requirements limit patient access and patient choice for pain management, and the inherent bias with physiatrists not being accepted into these programs. The CoR will consider all requirements up for review and make recommendations to the ACGME Board regarding approval of these requirements. These recommendations will be based on all information provided to the Committee, including public testimony. Final action on the proposed requirements will occur during the ACGME Board meeting and announced following the ACGME’s normal process.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
