AAPM&R Thanks House Members for Efforts to Avert 2021 Medicare Conversion Factor Cut

AAPM&R thanks Reps. Bera (D-CA) and Buchson (R-MD) for spearheading this recent letter to House leaders, Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) and Leader McCarthy (R-CA), urging immediate action to avert the impending 10.6% cut to the Medicare conversion factor scheduled for implementation on January 1, 2021.

These outstanding congressional leaders and the over 220 letter cosigners recognize the importance of securing a legislative solution to support the necessary and beneficial changes to office and outpatient evaluation and management codes while avoiding the devastating corresponding conversion factor cut.

Their call to advance legislation to address this critical issue in any upcoming legislative package aims to help providers already financially reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic to remain open and preserve access to care for tens of millions of Americans.

AAPM&R would also like to thank the American College of Radiology (ACR) for leading specialty organizations in supporting the House letter and encouraging Representatives signatures. In addition to the efforts led by ACR, AAPM&R encouraged House members to sign the letter and secured several key signatures before the letter was closed.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
