CMS to Temporarily Hold Claims Pending Action on Sequester

March 31, 2021

In anticipation of Congressional action to extend the 2% sequester moratorium through December 31, 2021, the Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACS) have been instructed to hold all claims with dates of service on or after April 1, 2021 for a short period.

The current moratorium is set to expire on March 31, 2021, which would result in claims being paid at a rate reduced by 2% effective April 1, 2021.

This hold is intended to minimize the volume of claims that would require reprocessing if the moratorium is extended.

AAPM&R is monitoring the progress of sequester legislation and will share news with members as it becomes available.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
