  • Kathleen Bell, MD, FAAPMR, chair of PM&R at UT Southwestern Medical Center and AAPM&R Past President, was recently quoted in a The New York Times article discussing one of her patients—a teenager who experienced long COVID symptoms. Read more.
  • Michael Fredericson, MD, FAAPMR, professor of orthopaedic surgery and the head physician for Stanford’s track and field team, traveled to Tokyo for the Summer Olympics where he cared for the athletes and officials, including treating injuries, addressing general medical concerns and evaluating people for COVID-19. Read more.
  • Oluseun Olufade, MD, FAAPMR, addresses how muscle mass changes as we age as well as exercise recommendations to maintain and gain muscle mass. Read more.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
