AAPM&R Helps Develop a Position Statement Regarding International Collaboration in Medicine

On February 3, 2017, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS) released a position statement that was developed in collaboration with AAPM&R and 26 other medical societies, regarding the impact on international collaboration in medicine of the recent executive order suspending some foreign entry into the United States. View the full statement below: 

The undersigned members of the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS) are concerned that the recent executive order suspending some foreign entry into the United States will have a negative impact on patient care, medical research, the education of health professionals, and international scientific collaboration. Tens of thousands of people from more than 100 countries come to the United States each year to exchange ideas to improve patient care throughout the world. Progress against disease will falter if the global community engaging together in medical care is divided by policies that bar members of certain nationalities from entering the United States to deliver patient care, conduct research, participate in medical education, and engage in scientific discourse. We call on national leaders to eliminate barriers to scientific exchange and medical education.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
