SQOD Designated as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry by CMS

January 2, 2018

The Spine Quality Outcomes Database (SQOD), the Academy's registry, has been designated as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the 2nd year in row.

QCDR designation is important because it enables physiatric practices to identify and improve gaps in the quality of physiatric care, demonstrate their value to payers, and compare their performance to physiatrists nationwide. Since physiatry owns the data, you are empowered to tell your own story of value.

A QCDR is a reporting mechanism for satisfactory Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) participation, distinct from Qualified Registries. As a QCDR, the SQOD:

  • Offers an easy way to submit quality data to CMS for the MIPS for both individual physicians and physician group practices
  • Allows users to submit non-CMS measures to meet their quality reporting requirements—benefits the specialty!
  • Provides direct assistance with compiling the needed data for quality improvement
  • Provides feedback to registry participants at least quarterly and on demand via the SQOD Registry User Dashboard
  • Is a vehicle to attest all Quality Payment Program requirements:
    • Quality
    • Improvement Activities
    • Advancing Care Information

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
