Academy Meets with CMMI to Discuss Bundled Payment Models

Members & Publications

March 4, 2020

This February, AAPM&R members Drs. Christopher Standaert, Stuart Glassman, and Kevin Carneiro met twice with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) staff in Washington, DC and Baltimore to discuss a potential bundled payment model focused on spine and osteoarthritis care.

Your Academy is engaging with CMMI to shape the model in a way that creates better incentives to leverage the expertise of physiatrists.

This potential model is still under consideration and development at CMMI. Many details, including who may be able to participate, what conditions may be included, and when the model will be announced, are still under consideration. Alternatively, CMMI may choose not to move forward with a model in this space.

Your Academy will continue to advocate on this issue and will continue to share updates with members as we learn more.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
