Options for Data Collection

There are 3 different ways that a participant can collect and submit data to AAPM&R's Registry:

  1. Pull: Extracting from an Electronic Health Record (EHR): The Registry can connect with more than 200 different EHRs. To extract or “pull” data, a practice will need to install the Registry Practice Connector (RPC) software–provided by FIGmd–either on its EHR database server, or on a computer that has access to the EHR database. Then, the practice’s RPC connects with FIGmd’s system to initiate the secure transmission of the patient/encounter-related clinical data to the Registry.
  2. Push: Downloading files from an EHR and sending them to the Registry: If the pull option is not available, participants can download their files and send them to the Registry, also known as the “push” method. In this method, no RPC installation is required from the participant. Instead, a practice would download its data from the EHR and map it, according to a Clinical Data Repository (CDR) template. The practice would then transfer the mapped data to the Registry via the cloud.
  3. Web Portal: Manually entering data online: In instances in which the pull and push options are unavailable, participants will be provide a link and login information for a web portal. This web portal will be set up according to the quality measures used by the Registry. Participants would log in to the portal and manually enter their data into a measures questionnaire for collection.

Participants can also use a hybrid of the 3 options to share their data with the Registry. Details about how an EHR is hosted are required to determine if and how much data can be extracted. This is determined on a site-by-site basis. Contact us for more information.
