Strategic Plan

Long-Range Goals

The following represents The American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation’s goals for the next 3–5 years. These goals are outcome-oriented statements that represent what will constitute success for the Academy. The achievement of each goal will move the Academy towards the realization of its envisioned future.

Goals

GOAL A: PATIENT CARE

Increasing health care system investments of financial, intellectual and human resources in physical medicine and rehabilitation will directly benefit people with acute and chronic disabling conditions.

GOAL B: EVIDENCED-BASED RESEARCH

Quality of life and function will be improved by increased support for the development, funding, analysis, dissemination, and application of rehabilitation research.

GOAL C: PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY

Physiatrists value membership in an organization that will be recognized as integral to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of medical conditions which compromise function.

GOAL D: EDUCATION

Physiatrists will value the Academy as their primary source of continuing professional development and other healthcare professionals will recognize the Academy as a valuable resource for rehabilitation-related education.

GOAL E: AWARENESS

Physiatrists will be recognized as integral to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of medical conditions which compromise function.

GOAL F: ORGANIZATIONAL HEALTH​

Further the Academy’s long-term organizational health.
