CMS Provides Alternatives for Providers Who Have Difficulties Submitting ICD-10 Claims

All services provided on or after October 1 are required to have an ICD-10 diagnosis code. ICD-9 codes will no longer be accepted on those services. If you have problems submitting claims using ICD-10 codes, CMS has provided possible alternatives in their MedLearn Matters Article SE1522, “Claims Submission Alternatives for Providers Who Have Difficulties Submitting ICD-10 Claims.” Read the full article here.

Please note that these alternatives still require you to use ICD-10 coding. Claims submitted after the effective date for ICD-10 implementation that use ICD-9 codes will be rejected.

AAPM&R Endorses Call to Action to Eliminate Physicians’ Firearms “Gag Laws”

AAPM&R has endorsed the paper, Firearm-Related Injury and Death in the United States: A Call to Action from 8 Health Professional Organizations and the American Bar Association, for its stance on remediating intrusions on physician-patient relationships.

Current state and federal mandates and laws interfere with physician free speech and affect the physician-patient relationship by forbidding the discussion of a patient’s gun ownership. Your Academy agrees with the paper’s proposed recommendations to remove the communication restrictions so that physicians can speak freely with patients in a nonjudgmental manner about firearms and advise them on the course of behaviors that promote health and safety. View the full paper here.
