Commit to Help Reduce Firearm-Related Violence

In September 2015, AAPM&R endorsed the paper, Firearm-Related Injury and Death in the United States: A Call to Action from 8 Health Professional Organizations and the American Bar Association, for its stance on remediating intrusions on physician-patient relationships.

In a follow-up to this endorsement, the American College of Physicians (ACP) is conducting a new campaign, in tandem with a recently-published article by Dr. Garen Wintermute, which encourages physicians to make a commitment to help reduce firearm-related violence by adding their name to an online form that will be posted on ACP’s website. Learn more and make a commitment.

Choosing Wisely® Campaign Marks Fifth Anniversary

In 2012, the ABIM Foundation launched the Choosing Wisely® campaign with the goal of advancing a national dialogue on avoiding wasteful or unnecessary medical tests, treatments and procedures.

Take a look at this report, which marks the fifth anniversary of the campaign. The report recounts the campaign’s success in raising awareness about overuse and in motivating physicians and health system leaders to implement change. Choosing Wisely® now involves more than 80 medical specialty society partners and more than 525 specialty society recommendations on overused tests, treatments and procedures.
