43 U.S. Senators Vow to Stop Passage of H.R. 620: The ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017

On March 28, 2018, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and 42 of her colleagues wrote to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) vowing to block a House effort to dismantle the civil rights of individuals with disabilities, under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). The group of 43 Senators represents enough votes to defeat H.R. 620: The ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017, should legislation be introduced to the Senate.

On March 19, AAPM&R launched a grassroots campaign so that Academy members who were constituents of targeted Senators could send a letter requesting they sign on to Senator Duckworth’s letter. AAPM&R also sent a separate letter to all Senate offices asking for their support in not introducing H.R. 620. We are thrilled with this outcome, as your Academy has been a longstanding supporter of the ADA and has worked relentlessly to halt the advancement of H.R. 620.

We are thrilled with this outcome, as your Academy has been a longstanding supporter of the ADA and has worked relentlessly to halt the advancement of H.R. 620.
