Quality and Research Update Regarding Our Registry Initiative

As part of the Board of Governors’ ongoing review to optimally support our mission of advancing physiatry’s impact throughout healthcare, the Board made the difficult decision to no longer advance the registry in its initial format as of December 31, 2025. We sincerely thank the Registry Steering Committee, Quality and Research Committee and all of our early-adopter sites for their commitment to PM&R and to the Academy’s vision. While we are changing our approach, our commitment to quality and research remains unwavering.

Specifically, key areas of focus for the Quality and Research and the newly formed Data Strategy Steering committees include:

•   Development of clinical guidance and best practice‑ recommendations.
•   Advancement of evidence-based‑ PM&R practices.
•   Prioritization of initiatives that strengthen PM&R’s role and visibility within healthcare systems.
•   Stewardship of a specialty‑wide data strategy—including defining high‑value data elements, assessing priority data gaps, and guiding analyses that demonstrate the value of physiatrist‑led care.

Together, these efforts ensure that the specialty has the tools, insights, and frameworks necessary to effectively demonstrate its value and improve patient outcomes.
