On Monday, May 13, CMS released updates to the master list of Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) items potentially subject to face-to-face encounter and written order prior to delivery and/or prior authorization requirements. Updates will primarily take effect August 12, 2024, with some changes being phased in on November 12, 2024. Several new DMEPOS items have been added to the list of services requiring prior authorization and the list of services requiring face-to-face encounters and written orders which are relevant to PM&R. These include certain lumbar-sacral orthosis and certain knee orthoses. For more information about this program, please visit the CMS website.
