November 2, 2021

In late October, several Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) released a revised local coverage determination (LCD) for Epidural Steroid Injections for Pain Management.  This revised LCD will take effect on December 5, 2021 for all MACs other than Noridian.  The release of this final LCD follows an almost year-long revision process initiated by the MACs, which held a multi-jurisdictional Carrier Advisory Committee (CAC) in February 2020. AAPM&R had represented at the CAC meeting and also provided feedback on the draft LCD which was released over the summer. CGS is hosting an educational webinar on the changes to the LCD on November 12 at 2pm ET. Visit the CGS website to register.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
