New Pain Management Supplement and SAE-P Now Available!

Your Academy is excited to announce the new Pain Management Supplement and Self-Assessment for Practitioners (SAE-P), Current Concepts in Physiatric Pain Management, which accompanies the November PM&R Journal. At the heart of physiatric practice, there is an intrinsic need to manage pain. As physiatrists, you specialize in the evaluation and treatment of patients with neurological, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal disorders. While the focus of care must be the maximal restoration of physical functioning, there is a requisite need to manage pain in support of this process.

The supplement, guest edited by Academy member Mark Tyburski, MD, includes more than 30 SAE-P questions to assess your knowledge on the topic. The supplement addresses safe opioid prescribing as well as non-pharmacologic options for various patient populations experiencing acute and chronic pain. It also includes updates on opioid medication regulations and treatment of patients with chronic pain in alternative payment models. Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
