Your Academy is Setting Up an Alternative Payment Model

Your Academy is currently working with a consultant group to set up an alternative payment model for spine care. The consultants were hired to provide us with data and design. The aim of the model is to show that a referral by a primary care physician to a physiatrist will be less costly than a referral to a surgeon. Several of your colleagues are members of a technical advisory panel, to ensure that the model is set up in such a way that it is useful for physiatrists and to correct inadvertent clinical or study design errors.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
