AAPM&R Approved for Commission on Cancer Membership

Members & Publications

May 31, 2016

Great news! Your Academy was recently approved for a membership with the Commission on Cancer (CoC). The CoC, established by the American College of Surgeons in 1922, is a consortium of more than 50 professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care.

Academy member Eric Wisotzky, MD, chief of the division of rehabilitation medicine and director of the cancer rehabilitation program at MedStar National Rehabilitation Network, will serve as our liaison to the Commission. AAPM&R members include physiatrists who are experts in the rehabilitation of cancer patients and survivors, and can provide critical cancer rehabilitation expertise to the CoC. PM&R prides itself in being a collaborative specialty, and working with the CoC will strengthen both patient care and further integration of physiatry into cancer rehabilitation. Your Academy looks forward to this new partnership and bringing the energies of our organization to collaborate with the CoC and member organizations so that together we can advance quality care.

Thank you, Dr. Wisotzky, for serving the Academy and helping move PM&R forward!

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
