Medicare Administrative Contractors Release Epidural LCD Draft

This month, the Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) have released draft revisions to their epidural local coverage determinations (LCDs).  The revisions follow an LCD review process which included a multi-jurisdictional Carrier Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting held in February.  Your Academy had representation at the CAC meeting who provided feedback on literature support for epidural procedures at that time. 

The full language of the draft/proposed LCD can be found on the CMS website.  Your Academy is actively working on comments in response to the revisions. The MACs have individual deadlines for comment submission ranging from late July to early August.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
