Deborah Venesy, MD Announced as 2022 AAPM&R President

Nov 16, 2021

AAPM&R is pleased to announce that Deborah Venesy, MD, has been named the 2022 AAPM&R President. In her role as president, Dr. Venesy will lead the Board of Governors in their dedicated commitment and innovative advancement of the Academy's mission and vision. She has volunteered for AAPM&R since the early 1990s, most recently serving as vice president and then president-elect.

Dr. Venesy is currently the senior staff physician in the Center for Spine Health at The Cleveland Clinic and former vice chairman of the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation where she has worked since 1999. Prior to her appointment at The Cleveland Clinic, she was the medical director for The Ohio State University Spine Center. She has been an active volunteer throughout her professional career, having completed a two-year term in October 2020 as president of The Ohio State University College of Medicine Alumni Society.

“As a specialty, we can do tremendous things. It’s been incredible to see how our practice has evolved  and how we’re able to build on the foundations of PM&R and grow to bring value to patients, families and the medical community broadly. I’m looking forward to continuing this “big tent” bold approach to bringing a variety of perspectives and viewpoints as we continue to evolve as physiatrists,” said Dr. Venesy.

Dr. Venesy is a native of Ohio, where she graduated from medical school at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and completed her residency at The Ohio State University, where she served as chief resident.
