On October 26, the Access to Inpatient Rehabilitation Therapy Act, was re-introduced to help expand access to skilled rehabilitation therapies for Medicare patients and provide seniors with patient-centered, well rounded treatment options. As a long-time advocate for this bill, AAPM&R is thrilled for its re-introduction to Congress. Academy President Dr. Steven Flanagan is quoted in the press release stating, “When led by a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, inpatient rehabilitation care offers patients an essential and vital care plan to meet their rehabilitation needs. Thank you to Representatives Thompson and Courtney for reintroducing the Access to Inpatient Rehabilitation Therapy Act to ensure that all inpatient rehabilitation facility patients can continue to benefit from the breadth of services that are critically important for patient care.”

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
