Anjali Shah, MD, FAAPMR, traveled to Washington, DC, to meet with senior leadership for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and advocate for the need to expand access to power standing systems for patients in the Medicare program. Expanding access to these systems will dramatically improve the quality of life for PM&R patients who rely on mobility assistance.
Dr. Shah participated in this meeting with allied stakeholders as part of the Independence Through Enhancement of Medicare and Medicaid (ITEM) Coalition, a clinician-led coalition of more than 75 national organizations advocating for access to and coverage of assistive devices, technologies, and related services for persons with injuries, illnesses, disabilities, and chronic conditions of all ages.
This work builds off of earlier successful Academy advocacy to expand access to power seat elevation systems for Medicare patients. Click here to learn more about this previous Academy work.
