On September 11, your Academy joined the American Medical Association (AMA) in submitting comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) critiquing the overly burdensome and poorly designed Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). The AMA sign-on letter highlights concern about complex and duplicative measures in the MIPS program, as well as the lack of disease-specific measures. Numerous primary and subspecialty organizations joined the AMA in this push, coinciding with the comment period associated with the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule which details policy proposals for the 2026 MIPS program.
