AAPM&R Celebrates a Win in Durable Medical Equipment Local Coverage Determination

Dec 02, 2025

The Local Coverage Determination (LCD) for Urological Supplies has been finalized, marking a significant win for spinal cord injury patients and advocates. The addition of new hydrophilic urinary catheter codes and expanded access to sterile catheter kits for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) at any level goes into effect January 1, 2026. This change aligns coverage with clinical evidence showing a strong link between SCI and immunosuppression, helping reduce the risk of serious urinary tract infections and represents a major step forward in promoting equitable access to essential urological care.
