Coming Soon: Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule

Members & Publications

June 27, 2017

Your Academy staff is awaiting publication of the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule which is expected to coincide with the July 4th holiday. This year, AAPM&R has been actively engaging in ongoing dialogue with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to fight for fair valuation of physiatry services. In March, AAPM&R leadership and staff met with CMS to discuss payment accuracy for services provided to patients with mobility impairment. A G code was approved for these services in the 2017 fee schedule, however value was not assigned to the code. We anticipate that a value may be assigned for this service in the upcoming proposed rule.  Further, AAPM&R physician representatives have attended numerous meetings of the AMA Relative Value Scale Update Committee and CPT Editorial Panel over the past year.  Recommendations from the Committee and Panel are provided to CMS for consideration in their rulemaking process. The Academy will notify members upon publication of the proposed rule and, as in previous years, we will submit comments to the rule on behalf of the field.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
