The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) launched a major initiative at the end of 2017 to define the future of certification. Continuing Board Certification: Vision for the Future is a collaborative process that brings together multiple stakeholders including physicians, professional medical organizations, national specialty and state medical societies, hospitals and health systems, the general public and patients, and the 24 Member Boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Together, they comprise a Commission that is leading the effort throughout 2018 and early 2019.

Board certification and continuing certification are important parts of professional self-regulation and professional identity. In a transparent and open process, the Vision Initiative is designed to assess the current state of continuing board certification and envision its framework for the future.

Take a few minutes to share your thoughts in this Vision Initiative Survey. Your feedback will help create the future of continuing certification. Spread the word to your colleagues, too. Learn more about the initiative here.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
