Spinal Cord Injury Research Program Funding Opportunities

The FY18 Defense Appropriation provides $30 million (M) to the Department of Defense Spinal Cord Injury Research Program (SCIRP). The SCIRP challenges the scientific community to design research that will foster new directions for and address neglected issues in the field of SCI-focused research.

Focus Areas for FY18 are: Early Care of SCI; Biomarkers; Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction and Neuropathic Pain; Psychosocial Issues; Rehabilitation and Regeneration. The program offers Clinical Trial, Investigator-Initiated Research, Qualitative Research and Translational Research Award funding opportunities. The managing agent for the Program Announcements/Funding Opportunities is the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).

The deadline for pre-application submission is July 9, 2018.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
