The National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) is searching for a new Director. This position would be a unique opportunity for a physiatrist. The NCMRR is a major source at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of research and training to promote health, productivity, independence, and quality of life for people with disabilities. The NCMRR focused on such areas of research as improving movement, promoting recovery, adapting to a disability, and understanding body-injury responses; health promotion and prevention of injury and disability; technology development to improve the diagnosis, treatment and everyday functioning of people with disabilities; developing assistive devices and bioengineering technologies to promote function and participation; evaluating rehabilitation effectiveness; and training researchers and medical professionals in rehabilitation methods and techniques. 

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
