CDC Management of Acute and Chronic Pain: Opportunity for Stakeholder Engagement

Members & Publications

July 24, 2020

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced an opportunity to hear stakeholders’ perspectives on and experiences with pain and pain management, including but not limited to the benefits and harms of opioid use. These stakeholders include patients with acute or chronic pain, patients’ family members and/or caregivers, and healthcare providers who care for patients with pain or conditions that can complicate pain management (e.g., opioid use disorder or overdose).

As part of this effort, CDC will be holding approximately 100 individual conversations with stakeholders over the phone or through an internet-enabled virtual platform. These conversations are intended to supplement CDC’s prior efforts, which solicited written comments that AAPM&R responded to last month.

Stakeholders must follow the steps outlined in the Federal Register to express interest in participating by August 21.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
