247 Members of Congress Oppose Proposed Medicare Payment Cuts

On Thursday October 14, 2021, 247 members of Congress submitted a letter to Congressional Leadership urging action to prevent the proposed significant cuts to the Physician Fee Schedule scheduled to take effect next year.  Over the past month, AAPM&R joined over 130 national organizations and many state organizations in pushing for a letter and a solution the payment issues, demonstrating broad support across the health care continuum.  AAPM&R reached out individually to Congressional offices we’ve met with during our most recent Hill Day to remind them of the importance of this issue and urge them to sign on.  With cuts still scheduled to take effect January 1, 2022, AAPM&R will be actively advocating on this issue for the remainder of the year.  We will continue to inform members via Connection and the Academy website.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
