AAPM&R Begins Development of Quality Measures

Jun 01, 2017

On June 1, 2017, AAPM&R’s development of quality measures kicked-off as members of the Technical Expert Panel (TEP) met at the headquarters of the PCPI® Foundation, formerly the American Medical Association-convened Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement, in Chicago, Illinois.

The multi-specialty TEP reviewed and discussed specifications for physiatric-centric quality measures as part of an ongoing process to develop up to 5 measures. The TEP focused on specifying measures for stroke patients as well as general measures not specific to a specific population (i.e., shared decision making, goal attainment, etc.). The measures developed will initially be placed into the Academy’s registry platform with the intention of being available as quality measures within the Quality Payment Program for the 2018 reporting year.

AAPM&R would like to recognize its member representatives on the TEP who have committed their time and expertise to this important initiative!

  • Steve Gnatz, MD, MHA
  • Amy J. Houtrow, MD, PhD, MPH (Co-Chair)
  • Valere Jones, MD
  • Richard D. Zorowitz, MD (Co-Chair)

Other specialties represented include neurology, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, geriatrics, and a patient representative. The Academy will continue to provide updates as this initiative further develops.
